Vegans Use CBD Oil For Healthier Bones
Being a vegan has many health benefits. Vegans are, on average, thinner, have lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and a reduced risk of heart disease. But there are some downsides to a vegan diet which need to be addressed in order to live a long, healthy, productive life. CBD oil may be a big help for vegans seeking to protect bone health in particular.
According to a study entitled, Health Effects of Vegan Diets,” Vegans are often deficient in:
- Vitamin B-12
- Vitamin D
- Omega-3 fatty acids
According to the report, low calcium “is associated with bone loss and fractures at the hip and spine in the elderly.” And, as many with elderly loved ones know, a broken hip—or any broken bone for that matter—can result in immobility. The lack of exercise that comes with immobility causes bones to weaken further, causing a downward spiral into potential disability.
The author goes on to say, “Unless vegans regularly consume foods that are fortified with these nutrients, appropriate supplements should be consumed. In some cases, iron and zinc status of vegans may also be of concern because of the limited bioavailability of these minerals… The higher risk of bone fracture seen in vegans appears to be a consequence of a lower mean calcium intake.”
CBD Oil For Better Bone Health
There are numerous studies which suggest that CBD oil might be a helpful supplement for those with deficiencies in calcium and the other micronutrients mentioned above.
Studies indicate that CBD may help to mitigate the onset, progression, and damage caused by osteoporosis—a condition which can be caused by low calcium which results in weaker bones and more fractures.
In a study entitled, "Cannabinoids and bone: friend or foe?,” researchers found that cannabinoid receptors play important roles in bone health.
Another study with the lengthy title of, “Cannabidiol, a Major Non-Psychotropic Cannabis Constituent Enhances Fracture Healing and Stimulates Lysyl Hydroxylase Activity in Osteoblasts,” found that the strength of bones in rats markedly increased after treatment with CBD. The study also showed that dietary supplementation with CBD leads to faster healing of broken bones.
CBD Oil: The “Superfood”
What about those other micronutrients in which vegans are sometimes deficient—omega fatty acids, vitamin D, and vitamin B-12?
CBD oil is considered a “superfood” by nutritionists because of its perfect 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids and abundance of vitamins and minerals, and wide range of amino acids. CBD oil also contains an array of and minerals including B vitamins, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and iron.
